Which college should I choose: University of San Francisco, University of Minnesota, or University of Illinois?

Which college should I choose: University of San Francisco, University of Minnesota, or University of Illinois?
I REALLY want to go to SAN FRANCISCO! But, it costs a lot more than the other schools and ranks lower... But, I think I'd fit in SO WELL there... :( Frown as I see my dreams float out of my reach. Minnesota: 24k/yr. Illinois: 36k/yr. USF: 45k/yr If I chose USF, my parents could pay for about half and I'd have to pick up the other half... So this means when I graduate, I'd have about 45k in loans... I'm thinking that's not a good move. But, I don't know... Living in California (San Francisco) is the EPITOME of what I want. Sometimes, I'd just like to follow my dreams and trust that I'd get a good job. What would you do?

You have to look to see what is going to be your financial aid package at each school. Maybe USF will give you more money and end up being cheaper. I am looking to graduating with 45K + in loan debt, so be it because otherwise I could not attend school. School reputation is something that you have to consider, too. Believe it or not it plays on when someone is trying to hire you. What you seen in the yearly reports is not always accurate with what people actually think of the university/college. Follow your heart, you can always transfer if things don't go as you thought.
2 :
Don't go into debt at this point in your life. It looks like your parents could pay almost the entire cost in Minnesota. San Francisco is very expensive and many of the most attractive recreational activities require that one be over 21. Come to San Francisco for graduate school or your career. Part-time student jobs are difficult to find in San Francisco due to the demand for them and the condition of the economy.
3 :
Which one feels the most "right" for you after visiting them all? Once you've sat in on a couple of classes, hung out around the student center and chatted with some students, checked out the areas around the school, read the school bulletin boards and the school newspaper, you should have a better idea of what the schools are actually like. You can always "follow your dreams" once you're out of college. Good luck to you!

Help with good New York or San Francisco Colleges?

Help with good New York or San Francisco Colleges?
Well, I'm a junior in high school, and I have started my college search. I've always been interested in NYU, and am on their mailing list and everything already. I'm also looking at Columbia in New York.... Anyone know any good schools located in New york or San Francisco (preffered, but not limited to California in whole) that at least have a good theatre program and good language and study abroad programs? (Those would be my minor and major... language and theatre)

New York: There is Yeshiva and Fordham that you missed out. Both are well known private universities and both are religious.. Fordham being Jesuit and Yeshiva being Jewish. Yeshiva is in midtown (i think) and Fordham is in the Bronx. There is also a system of public colleges in NYC called CUNY which most NYC college students are a part of. There are many 4 year colleges and community colleges in the CUNY system including Brooklyn College, City College, Hunter College, Queens College, and Baruch College. These colleges are public and so are cheap to go to. San Francisco has only 2 Universities that have undergraduate colleges. They are the University of San Francisco, which is jesuit and catholic and private. It is in the Richmond district near the park. There is also San Francisco State University which is in the Ingleside district (Southwest San Francisco) and is accessible via the Muni M. It is a public state university that is a part of the California State University system. The University of California San Francisco campus has ONLY graduate and professional level programs. Im not well versed in the individual programs and disciplines that are available at all these universities but I know what the uni's are. San Francisco and New York are fabulous cities for college students (although they are expensive) because you do not need a car in either city and can experience big city life in your early adult years. Plus, going to school in these cities increases your chances of being able to get a job in these cities if you wish to live in them after school, which is a huge plus. Remember that Stanford and Berkeley are the biggest feeders for San Fran jobs and the Ivy League and NYU are for NYC jobs.

It is very expensive and that is not its forte. I would suggest Acadamy of Art www.acadamyofart.edu or www.sfai.edu which is the Art Institute of San Francisco but if you want a college degree check out SF State University which is less expensive www.sfsu.edu

Just go to your local art supply store and check the community board, they should have some private lessons on there.
2 :
Find a local drawing group, typically they will have one session out of the week with a "long" pose, and their will be painters there. Usually they are delighted to teach others. See the future: http://www.hallisystem.bravehost.com

I know of one in Oakland, but don't recall the name- because it changed names, last year. Type Art shools in California, into your browser, and see what comes up.

Does San Francisco State University or other state universities in california look at electives?

Does San Francisco State University or other state universities in california look at electives?
Currently I have a 3.02 GPA (Academic High School) with 1420 SAT and applied to San Francisco State and got a letter for Conditional Admission.I have everything in A-G covered, 3 years of foreign language, 4 years of math up to calculus, 4 years of english, chemistry at a community college with biology at high school, 2 years of history and government and college prep course done as well. I am also currently passing with straight B's senior year as well. Reason why I am worried is that in sophomore year I took half a semester of student aide and in junior year I took a year of student aide. I am also currently taking another year of student aide. My counselor then told me it may affect my application to colleges that Im taking so many aide courses. There really is no course electives that interest me and alot of teacher's needed aides throughout the years. There are other people taking courses like video game design and taking multiple periods off. I have completed all the A-G courses and more academics. Along with around 10 units in college through community college courses/AP courses. Would being an aide for 2 and a half years instead taking another course really affect my college admission? *Note: already found out it would not affect me getting my high school diploma*

conditional admission means you're admitted. just maintain a 2.5-3.0 or so and you'll be fine. they just say "conditional" because you have to do paperwork stuff like sending your final transcript, sat scores, signing up for orientation and stuff. just focus following the instructions on your gator admission site, keep a good gpa, and maybe find housing

all UC in california is really competative. let talk about your GPA and SAT and ACT score first of all before thinking about UC lol. Lowest UC in california that is consider a real UC is about a 3.5gpa and that is UC merced next is UC davis at 3.6gp and etc it goes up to 4.2gpa san diego i think. so get your GPA up and score good on SAT before thinking about what college to go too.

Consider this Question: "Why are these behaviours in children called BIPOLAR disorder ??"?
"Its symptoms occur in many psychiatric disorders, and in [NORMAL] children, and the differences between adult and childhood bipolar disorders are striking. This seems to be a diagnosis that [ MUST BE BELIEVED TO BE SEEN ]. But this is [FAITH]; and where faith and marketing dominate, science is [ EXCLUDED]. Many studies of childhood bipolar disorder have been conducted by researchers with financial ties to the pharmaceutical industry. Stronger evidence is needed before advocating the use of [[POWERFUL] and [EXPANSIVE] drugs, and [BURDENING CHILDREN] and their families with the diagnosis of a major mental illness." i agree. bipolar disorder should never be diagnosed in children. all children are bipolar if you go by the diagnostic criteria. instead of psychotropic meds, what children need is good parenting.
2 :
I completely agree that bipolar disorder is over-diagnosed and children (and adults too) are unnecessarily put on expensive medications which have serious side effects. This is happening with other conditions and medications as well. ADHD/ritalin, ED/viagra, and depression/SSRIs, to name a few. I am glad to see a physician point this out and demand stronger evidence before prescribing strong drugs.
3 :
Well, I was never diagnosed, but my parents thought I had bipolar... eg depression/aggression alternating with euphoria. My daughter used to be constantly hysterical... My son aggressive. My niece was diagnosed with "Asperger's syndrome". We all have one thing in common: Food Intolerance. We all act perfectly normally when we eliminate from our diets preservatives, flavours, colours, amines, salycilates, glutamates and, to a lesser extent, wheat and milk.

CSU SAN JOSE STATE

Can I make a decent living being an LPN in San Francisco?

Can I make a decent living being an LPN in San Francisco?
I'm about to go into nursing school, and when I graduate I really want to look into moving to the San Francisco area. Every time I bring this up to people, all anyone has to say is something negative about how expensive it is living in California. Are things really that bad? If I get a job as an LPN can I still make a decent living for myself?
San Francisco - 1 Answers

As a LPN you will always be able to find work but as to if you would be able to make a living in SF that is more difficult to answer. Your wage will be higher than it would in say Nebraska but so will the cost of living. Rental units start at about $1100/mo for a studio in The City. Many people here have roommates which can be a good way to pay less in rent. You can also find slightly less expensive in the east bay and south bay but will have to factor in commute costs. If you live and work in The City you won't need a car and not having one can cut down on the overall cost of living. You can get some idea of what is available by checking the rental listings on Craig's List. http://www.craigslist.org

St. Mary's College of California or University of San Francisco?-Nursing?
I have been accepted to both of these colleges, but I cannot make a decision according to my pursuit to become a nurse. I want to become a nurse first and then move on to medical school to eventually excel as a doctor. With your answer, it would helpful if you provided resources/where you got your information. Thank you! USF NOT UCSF

St. Mary's College will be very expensive since it is private....but living in San Francisco is expensive, so you will probably spend the same amount of money....I would rather go to USF because the passage rate is much higher than St. Mary, the CA board of registered nursing web sites tells you all the accredited nursing schools and its passage rate. I'm trying to do St. Mary's for there accelerated BA nursing program. Were you accepted into there AA program or their BA program, or BA accelerated program, or Master program?

Good Luck to you...

There are specialized schools like Hastings Law School and UC San Francisco Medical School and the lesser expensive Univ. of the Pacific medical and dental school. There are private art colleges like Academy of Art and S.F. Art Institute. Also some business colleges with no degrees. Every county has community colleges. It depends on what you want to study and how much prestige you want.
7 :
USF Cal Berkeley Cal State Hayward City College is a really good community college and they have transfer program and vocational programs. San Francisco State is not a great school though very popular because it's in the city. It's super crowded and many majors have really difficult times getting classes and some times wait several semesters before getting into very much needed classes. Business is one of those majors.
8 :
try a semester at city college (ccsf) first. try getting financial aid and renting books there. ccsf if one of the top transfer schools in the states. then you can look around at other schools that have majors you are interested in. also, sfsu is not a good school. impacted, messing up student records far too much, and really not worth it right now with all these "budget cuts"

State schools are less expensive than the Universitys and they are still good schools. Ones close to San Francisco are San Francisco State University (SFSU) and San Jose State University (SJSU). I go to California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) and even though it's a great school, I still wish I would have gone to SFSU. CSUS is about 2 hours from San Francisco. There are also Universities nearby which are San Francisco University (USF), California State University, Berkeley (UC Berkeley, also known as Cal), and Stanford. These schools are more prestigious so they are harder to get into and cost a lot more. There are community colleges everywhere you go too, there is City College of San Francisco (CCSF) and Berkeley City College. I think there are some other private schools or technical schools also, it just depends on what you're looking to get into. There are a few art schools too, like The Academy of Art. All of these schools have good reputations so I wouldn't say that any are a bad choice. I have friends that go to UC Berkeley, California State University Sacramento, California State University Chico, and CSU Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. They all really like their schools, so really it is just a matter of what you are looking for. CSU Chico is located in Northern California aways above Sacramento and is a really small cute town with lots of college kids, people pretty much walk everywhere, and it's notorious for being a party school. Cal Poly SLO is in San Luis Obispo which is more central California and it's pretty close to the beach, and it has a super cute downtown area. CSU Sacramento is more of a commuter school so not as many people live right on campus but it's located right in the capitol of CA. So if you're going to want any kind of internships w/like politics, criminal justice, gov't, those type of things, then it's a good place to go. UC Berkeley is in Berkeley which is really close to S.F. (just a Bart ride away!). Berkeley is a really cool, laidback, liberal, artsy kinda place even though the school is pretty prestigious. I really love it even though some areas are a little sketchy. Lots of fraternities & sororities. There's a big community type feeling and there is always some kind of student action or activism going on. I haven't stayed at any other campuses to know what they're like but I hope this helps!

Which is better, going to school in San Francisco or Long Beach?

Which is better, going to school in San Francisco or Long Beach?
I am apply to seven colleges and two of them are San Francisco State and CSU Long Beach. I have my heart set on this college called Soka University, a private university somewhere in down in SoCal, but I might not get in. SFSU and CSULB are sort of my back up schools to fall on and when if it comes down to two of these schools I am not sure if. I come from a sort of dry town in Central California and I am looking for a college that is far from that, Soka is an exception. What do you think are the Pros and Cons of living in either city? I love the weather in both cities. I love the cultural savviness and the diversity of SF but I also love that there always seem to be other things to do down in SoCal and other major cities are just a drive away, either an hour down to a couple of minutes. Also SoCal just always seems more of a night life area to me. If you were me, what would you choose?

San Fran is expensive, but there is less chance of getting wounded or worse in a gang related drive by than if you went to Long Beach.
2 :
Soka is a crackpot school run by Eastern Religion fanatics. San Francisco State is extremely politicized and fanatically liberal. Long Beach is by the beach.
3 :
CSU Long Beach is a much better university academically. It is the second highest ranking CSU after Cal Poly-SLO. San Francisco State is probably the most highly impacted CSU. Many students have to wait more than one semester for places in needed classes and they take five or six years to graduate. There is a very pervasive one-sided political atmosphere on the campus which makes free discussion difficult or impossible in some humanities and social science classes. The campus is located in a very foggy corner of the city and is about as far from downtown San Francisco as it is possible to be without leaving the city. San Francisco is a more expensive place to live than Long Beach. Southern Californians who visit me in the San Francisco area tell me that San Francisco is 30% more expensive for basic living costs. Dormitory accommodation at SFSU is limited and most students have to live off campus. Rents are very high.
4 :
CSULB is overcrowded and the classes are hard to get each semester, stay up north.
5 :
I kid,it's me again. The best I can tell you is to saturate it with prayer & talking to many christians who walk with God(not the phonies) will help. Pray until God gives you the peace of God to show you which one He has for you.
