What is the average rush hour commute time from Oakley, CA to San Francisco?
I'm moving to California soon to go to school at the Academy of Art in SF. I'm doing some house hunting and just wanted to figure out a few things. Thanks.

Probably about 2 hours each way. Definitely not something you want to do if you can help it.

Based on some proprietary data that I have at work, I checked a route from Mountain Mike's Pizza (2091 Main St, Oakley, CA 94561 (925) 625-0770) to Academy of Art University (79 New Montgomery St, San Francisco, CA 94105 (415) 274-2200) to get the extent of a trip from Oakley to the Academy of Art. At 7:30 AM your travel time on the best route (CA-4 to CA -242 to I-680 to CA -24 to I-580 to I-80 to downtown) will be: 1 hour and 25 minutes on Monday; 1 hour and 30 minutes on Tuesday; 1 hour and 34 minutes on Wednesday; 1 hour and 31 minutes on Thursday; 1 hour and 20 minutes on Friday; 59 minutes on Saturday; and 58 minutes on Sunday. At 4:30 PM your travel time on the best route (reverse of above, except get off at Ygnacio Valley Road on I-680 and take that to CA-4) will be: 1 hour and 22 minutes on Monday; 1 hour and 28 minutes on Tuesday; 1 hour and 31 minutes on Wednesday; 1 hour and 32 minutes on Thursday; 1 hour and 26 minutes on Friday; 1 hour and 7 minutes on Saturday; and 1 hour and 4 minutes on Sunday. Of course, the travel times assume that there are not any crashes or incidents along your route – hard to know in advance when those will happen. To see what traffic is like from different areas where you want to live to the Academy of Art, you should check out the mapquest.com page and click on "traffic" at the top right of the webpage to see what conditions are like at the time(s) you want to go there and back. If you have an iPhone, INRIX (a leading traffic data company) makes it traffic data available for free on major roads throughout the country – more details at the 2nd link below. Good luck
and safe travels!

Pharmacy schools in northern California?
Pharmacy schools in northern California?
Specifically Touro and the University of California, san Francisco. I want to know what the mean GPA, SAT scores, acceptance rate, tuition, etc. is for these schools. A Web site would be fantastic. Also, how can I be eligible for instate tuition in California?

From PharmCas http://www.pharmcas.org/collegesschools/directoryalpha.htm Most applicants these days have an undergraduate degree and if that's your case, then you don't need to worry about SAT unless you're doing a program that accepts high school students. UCSF Expected GPA of accepted students - 3.57 http://www.pharmcas.org/collegesschools/schoolUCSFpage.htm To be eligible for resident tuition you need to be a resident. This means that you're not just going there for school because state taxpayers fund state schools and it'd be unfair if too many out of state people got spots. Contact the school for the specifics.

Univ of the Pacific in Stockton has a pharm school too. http://web.pacific.edu/x4894.xml http://web.pacific.edu/x17293.xml Its a private school, but it is really good for pharm and if you want instate tutition, you have to be a CA resident. You probably have to declare CA as your state of residency (move to CA) and live here for some time. It kind of sounds like your looking for undergrad school info because pharm schools dont really ask for the SAT scores.

who has taken a good culinary school that can help me out?
who has taken a good culinary school that can help me out?
i have been looking around for culinary schools and found the San Francisco California Culinary Academy. i read up on it, and they had a really good rep, but ever since they were taken over by a bigger corporation, they became a trap that only sucks students in for their money! does it really deceive you? i set up a tour for that school but i hear its really crap and that they only tell you what you want to hear and they let just anybody in and they tell you that you will become the best, but i read in some articles that is it not true. my dream is to become a chef and open my own restaurant. is there any very good culinary colleges that people reaccomend that DONT deceive you and actually teaches you how to become a chef? and what is the charge, requirements, and info on those schools? i am 17, a senior living in northern california. i really prefer good culinary colleges in california or oregon. please email me if you would like to help me out!

There are several very reputable colleges for culinary arts but by far the two most famous are the Culinary Institute of American (in NY) and Johnson & Wales University - (campuses in a few cities, I think they have one in Denver) These are both fully accredited schools. J&W has a full business school and a full hotel/hospitality school that gives Bachelor and Masters Degrees, and I even think they have some Doctoral degrees (not in Culinary) I had a tour of the J&W Providence campus a few years ago and it was very impressive. I'm sure CIA is just as impressive. These are real schools that have granted thousands of degrees to culinary students and have graduates operating restaurants all over the world. Emeril is J&W graduate and I see his name in the paper every few months when he comes back to visit. These schools will teach you everything you need to know in order to not only be an expert chef, but also, to be the manager of a successful business in the food industry. Check them out online, they would be happy to send you information....

Which college should I choose: University of San Francisco, University of Minnesota, or University of Illinois?
Which college should I choose: University of San Francisco, University of Minnesota, or University of Illinois?
I REALLY want to go to SAN FRANCISCO! But, it costs a lot more than the other schools and ranks lower... But, I think I'd fit in SO WELL there... :( Frown as I see my dreams float out of my reach. Minnesota: 24k/yr. Illinois: 36k/yr. USF: 45k/yr If I chose USF, my parents could pay for about half and I'd have to pick up the other half... So this means when I graduate, I'd have about 45k in loans... I'm thinking that's not a good move. But, I don't know... Living in California (San Francisco) is the EPITOME of what I want. Sometimes, I'd just like to follow my dreams and trust that I'd get a good job. What would you do?

You have to look to see what is going to be your financial aid package at each school. Maybe USF will give you more money and end up being cheaper. I am looking to graduating with 45K + in loan debt, so be it because otherwise I could not attend school. School reputation is something that you have to consider, too. Believe it or not it plays on when someone is trying to hire you. What you seen in the yearly reports is not always accurate with what people actually think of the university/college. Follow your heart, you can always transfer if things don't go as you thought.
2 :
Don't go into debt at this point in your life. It looks like your parents could pay almost the entire cost in Minnesota. San Francisco is very expensive and many of the most attractive recreational activities require that one be over 21. Come to San Francisco for graduate school or your career. Part-time student jobs are difficult to find in San Francisco due to the demand for them and the condition of the economy.
3 :
Which one feels the most "right" for you after visiting them all? Once you've sat in on a couple of classes, hung out around the student center and chatted with some students, checked out the areas around the school, read the school bulletin boards and the school newspaper, you should have a better idea of what the schools are actually like. You can always "follow your dreams" once you're out of college. Good luck to you!

Help with good New York or San Francisco Colleges?
Help with good New York or San Francisco Colleges?
Well, I'm a junior in high school, and I have started my college search. I've always been interested in NYU, and am on their mailing list and everything already. I'm also looking at Columbia in New York.... Anyone know any good schools located in New york or San Francisco (preffered, but not limited to California in whole) that at least have a good theatre program and good language and study abroad programs? (Those would be my minor and major... language and theatre)

New York: There is Yeshiva and Fordham that you missed out. Both are well known private universities and both are religious.. Fordham being Jesuit and Yeshiva being Jewish. Yeshiva is in midtown (i think) and Fordham is in the Bronx. There is also a system of public colleges in NYC called CUNY which most NYC college students are a part of. There are many 4 year colleges and community colleges in the CUNY system including Brooklyn College, City College, Hunter College, Queens College, and Baruch College. These colleges are public and so are cheap to go to. San Francisco has only 2 Universities that have undergraduate colleges. They are the University of San Francisco, which is jesuit and catholic and private. It is in the Richmond district near the park. There is also San Francisco State University which is in the Ingleside district (Southwest San Francisco) and is accessible via the Muni M. It is a public state university that is a part of the California State University system. The University of California San Francisco campus has ONLY graduate and professional level programs. Im not well versed in the individual programs and disciplines that are available at all these universities but I know what the uni's are. San Francisco and New York are fabulous cities for college students (although they are expensive) because you do not need a car in either city and can experience big city life in your early adult years. Plus, going to school in these cities increases your chances of being able to get a job in these cities if you wish to live in them after school, which is a huge plus. Remember that Stanford and Berkeley are the biggest feeders for San Fran jobs and the Ivy League and NYU are for NYC jobs.

You can earn a master of science in financial analysis at St. Mary's College in Moraga, which is about twenty-five miles from San Francisco in the East Bay.
